All I Wanted Was Some Dinner

June 25, 2008 · 1 Comment

And an hour an a half later what do I have? Some concotion baking in the oven hopefully it’ll turn out alright if not I have a tuna lasagna in reserve to bake. As it stands, I’ve been eating (cooked) rice by the handful.

It was going to be potatoes and hamburger, but then the potatoes got mooshed instead of just dicing nicely like they’re SUPPOSED to. So I added some onion like I had planned and hoped the potatoes would somehow fry up into a nice crispy mash which I knew they wouldn’t but hope is nice isn’t it and then I added the hamburger thinking that oh well at least it’ll clump around the meat and I can get it to brown then and get some crispiness and THAT DID NOT WORK so I added some black beans turned it all into a loaf pan and put some BBQ sauce on top before popping it into the oven at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.

If it doesn’t turn out, I’ll probably eat it anyway. I’m too poor to throw away food.

At least my knitting has been going well. I’ve gotten the first sleeve and the better part of the 2nd one knocked out for my Japanese Maples cardigan.
I’m really excited about this sweater, I think I’ll wear it all the time and love it endlessly. I’m still torn about the shoulder treatment – Saddle shoulders again? Or should I own up and try the set-in sleeves that I liked so well on my last pullover? And I had the brilliant idea to do a texture pattern across the chest and back but now I’m not sure. How to center it? Should it go across the sleeves? Does the repeat even FIT? Bah humbug.
I have been trying bread again, this time a good ol’ fashioned yeast bread. I made two loaves and I think they turned out rather dashing. Doesn’t he just look magnificent in that white loaf pan? I confess, it’s not the pan he baked in. It’s the one I served him in so he would look nice and fancy for dinner. Who says plain bread can’t be dressed up?
Anyway, I’m excited to get paid and go GROCERY SHOPPING – Thank God, I am sick of making do. This month has been particularly tight for some reason.

A Little Upkeep

So I’ve had a couple of things brewing for a few weeks now. I’ve got a pattern up for sale through Ravelry on the sidebar. You don’t need to be a member of Ravelry to get it, but it is a fantastic place if you’re a great big research junkie like me.

I have also got a sweater preferences survey set up through Google, and if you would like to take that just click here. You don’t have to have Gmail to take the survey, and it would help me immensely. Again, I am a huge research junkie and in the right mood I love to crunch some stats.

The all-nighter was a complete success, we ended things with a waffle breakfast and that was faaaantastic. I have to say, the whole thing was a lot more enjoyable for having rested up beforehand – Although part of me misses the pink elephants.

Getting Right Back

June 8, 2008 · 1 Comment

So tonight we are liveblogging from the 3rd Annual Abundant All-Night.

I took Saturday off and napped after teaching in the morning, and I was sure to get a full 8 hours sleep the night before so I am feeling pretty good here coming up at 3:00 AM.  We have watched The Full Monty and Calendar Girls – Because it ain’t a party if somebody ain’t nekkid.

The evening has been fairly low-key, right now I’m playing Suzanne Vega’s “Tom’s Diner and chillin’ out.

Last summer one of our customers died and tonight we have had a silent auction to help with leukemia and lymphoma research. Her mother is also here and has brought some of the projects that were left unfinished when her daughter passed and we’re working on some squares for an afghan that was going to the grandmother. It’s pretty cool to see a bunch of people all working on this woman’s project.
There’s something really beautiful about that.

Mmm, maybe I am a wee bit sleepy..
